The devices covered under this category are incomplete in certain constructional features or restricted in performance capabilities and are intended for use as components of complete equipment submitted for investigation rather than for direct separate installation in the field. THE FINAL ACCEPTANCE OF THE COMPONENT IS DEPENDENT UPON ITS INSTALLATION AND USE IN COMPLETE EQUIPMENT SUBMITTED TO UL. USE This category covers painting equipment, air compressors, vacuum pumps and components intended to be used with or within Listed products of other categories. REBUILT PRODUCTS This category also covers painting equipment, air compressors and vacuum pumps that are rebuilt by the original manufacturer. Rebuilt painting equipment, air compressors and vacuum pumps are factory rebuilt to the extent necessary by disassembly and reassembly using new or reconditioned component parts. Rebuilt painting equipment, air compressors and vacuum pumps are subject to the same requirements as new painting equipment, air compressors and vacuum pumps. UL's Rebuilt Products Program for this category does not allow for the rebuilding or refurbishing or pressure vessels. CONDITIONS OF ACCEPTABILITY Unless specified otherwise in the individual Recognitions, consideration is to be given to the following Conditions of Acceptability when these components are employed in the end-use equipment: 1. These components may have been investigated for systems under pressure. The hydrostatic test pressure rating is the maximum hydrostatic pressure at which these products were tested. The maximum system pressure/vacuum rating is denoted as "Pressure Rating," and is in terms of pounds per square in (psi) for compressors, and inches mercury (Hg) for vacuum pumps. 2. Special consideration should be given to polymeric materials when a product is investigated for a specific application. The Materials Rating should be suitable for the application as outlined in the end-product standard or specifications. The Materials Ratings are designated "MR": MR=1 Unit employs "HB" minimum materials. MR=2 Unit employs "V-2" minimum materials. 3. These products may have incomplete construction features which would need to be addressed in the end product. These Incomplete Construction Features, designated "ICF," include: ICF=1 Guarding of hazardous moving parts may be required. ICF=2 Suitable enclosure of live parts may be required. ICF=3 Strain relief may be required. ICF=4 A suitable pressure relief device may be required as the unit is capable of producing pressures above the load pressure rating of the unit. ICF=5 Supply cord may be required. 4. These products have not been investigated for instruction manual requirements or for cautionary markings which may be required in the end-use application. 5. The suitability of the end-product connections to the motor terminals and the need for any strain relief and torque tests on the connection lead or power supply cord need to be determined in the end-product investigation. 6. The units have been investigated for use in normal use ambient (40°C maximum). 7. Products investigated to UL 60601-1, "Medical Electrical Equipment, Part 1: General Requirements for Safety," are based on non-patient contact for leakage current. REQUIREMENTS The basic standard used to investigate products in this category is UL 1450, "Motor-Operated Air Compressors, Vacuum Pumps, and Painting Equipment." These products may also be investigated to specific requirements outlined in the following standards designated "SC": SC=1 UL 60601-1 (First Edition) SC=2 UL 1950, "Safety of Information Technology Equipment" (Third Edition) SC=3 UL 61010A-1, "Electrical Equipment for Laboratory Use; Part 1: General Requirements" SC=4 UL 61010B-1, "Electrical Measuring and Test Equipment: - Part 1: General Requirements" UL MARKING Components Recognized under UL's Component Recognition Program are identified by markings consisting of the Recognized company's identification and catalog, model, or other product designation. In addition, components produced under the UL Component Recognition Program will also bear the Recognized Component Mark . For rebuilt products the word "Rebuilt,""Refurbished" or "Remanufactured" precedes the catalog, model or other product designation. The Listing or Classification Mark of UL is not authorized for use on, or in connection with, Recognized Components.
